Three Capes Vineyard, South East

Three Capes Vineyard, South East cellar door

Three Capes Vineyard

5 hectares of red and black Jurassic dolerite soil overlooking Norfolk Bay.

Three Capes Vineyard is home to 23 clones of Pinot Noir and now covers 5.5 hectares of red and black Jurassic dolerite soil overlooking Norfolk Bay.

It sits on the original farm that grew vegetables, wheat , beef and pork for Port Arthur- the convict built bluestone cobbled roads crisscross our vineyard and we have been at pains to leave them untouched.

We make tiny quantities of Pinot Noir from our handpicked grapes. We pride ourselves on the “hands-on nature “ of our viticulture and our purposeful regenerative techniques used in the vineyard. We use no pesticides or herbicides and use our Toulouse geese and Dorper sheep to weed and fertilise. Because of this we require up to 4 vines to make 1 bottle of wine. The result is wine of extraordinary texture, with delicate flavours and aromas overlaying impressive concentrated and sophisticated layers.

Our cellar door is in the original general store at Saltwater River dating from 1914. At the request of Heritage Tasmania we have left the store in its original condition- itself a fascinating dive into history.

We are inviting guests to play pétanque in our front yard- beside the old Convict built hospital dating from 1847.

Bring a picnic lunch and a rug and join us in enjoying the fruits of our labour.

Buses and coaches accepted by appointment only.
