Mount Direction Estate, Derwent Valley cellar door

Mount Direction Estate

Established on the Estate's productive valley in 2022, our vineyard spans 31 rows of Chardonnay and 28 rows of Pinot Noir vines. The temperate maritime climate paired with the rich dolerite soils creates unique growing conditions with excellent minerality, resulting in elegant, finely-structured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties.

Food

Mount Direction Estate is excited about joining SITV 2026 - our first ‘spring’ event. Our 2025 vintage will be available for tasting and for sale by the glass and bottle. We offer both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, crafted by talented Tasmanian-based winemaker Thomas New.

Pinot Noir - The 2025 season saw warm conditions, resulting in a generous fruit expression that gives a full gamut of dark fruit flavours and savoury earthy notes. This vintage is a powerful representation of Tassie Pinot Noir and can be enjoyed year-round.

Chardonnay - Mount Direction Estate Chardonnay offers a modern Australian expression of the variety, beautifully capturing the Tasmanian climate and season. This mid-weight wine has a lovely texture and freshness. An elegant drop for an early vintage.

Our event will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm at the 1824 heritage property, Mount Direction Estate - 1036 East Derwent Highway, Risdon Cove. Chef Ryan Dolan is also providing our food on the day - think BBQ octopus with chilli & lime butter or perhaps a Nicoise Tartine ! Plus a few other choices. Ryan has worked in France, then Melbourne and his style is innovative utilising local seasonal produce, currently running his neo bistrot pop up and Pompadour at the Salamanca Markets - bringing a taste of France to Hobart.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our beautiful property, (although still under renovation) where there is lots to see and great stories to be told. We will be joined by our wine maker Thomas New, of Future Perfect Wines, and he will be showcasing a selection of his new release wines alongside Mount Direction Estate. And bringing the tunes!! Bring on the good weather!
