Chatto is the result of Jim Chatto’s fixation with Tasmanian Pinot Noir as a small side project alongside his day jobs as winemaker in the Hunter Valley (First Creek, Pepper Tree and Mount Pleasant/McWilliams 2000-2020). In 2019 Jim was named the Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year. Stepping full time into this side hustle in the past 5 years has seen some interesting extra curricular wines appearing more recently from outside of Tasmania. Side hustles continue it seems.

Jim’s career includes his wine show judging track record where he has chaired the National, Brisbane, McLaren Vale, Hunter and Melbourne Wine shows and he organises an annual Pinot Noir masterclass at the Len Evans Tutorial – one of the most exclusive wine schools on the planet today.
